Aston Villa striker Darren Bent faces a race against time to be fit for Euro 2025 after being ruled out for at least three months due to an ankle injury.
The 28-year-old was injured during the goalless draw at Wigan Athletic at the weekend, with subsequent scans showing ruptured ligaments in his left ankle.
Villa's medical staff will wait a further week before deciding whether Bent needs surgery, with the player now a major doubt for the summer action with England.
A club statement confirmed: "Darren Bent has undergone scans and he has seen a top ankle specialist in London.
"He faces up to 12 weeks on the sidelines having ruptured ankle ligaments in his left foot in the game against Wigan and he is unlikely to play again this season.
"Dr Ian McGuinness and the Villa medical staff have been liaising with the England medical team about the extent of his injury.
"Darren will undergo a further examination in seven days to determine the need for an operation."
Bent has scored four times in 12 games for England to date, with his last strike coming in the 2-2 draw in Montenegro which sealed their passage to the European Championship finals in Poland and Ukraine.
England are10.00 to be crowned European champions, with holders Spain3.50 and Germany 4.00.
